A Nightmare on Elm Street
Directed by Wes Craven
A Nightmare on Elm Street is yet another classic 80’s horror movie that I was not allowed to watch as a child. Now in my mid-30’s, I obviously watch these movies with certain expectations and preconceived notions. Freddy Krueger is such an iconic character that he doesn’t possess the power to scare anymore and the movie certainly didn’t make me lose any sleep. However, much like Halloween, the movie was way better than I expected!
The first kill scene (Tina) was creepy and really well done, and I know it has been mimicked in other movies but their names are escaping me. Nancy’s bathroom scene was surprisingly scandalous, although Michael would object that no 80’s horror movie should be without nudity. The only thing that took me out of the movie a little bit was how Nancy’s mother managed to bar all her windows in under 8 hours. Come on.
We rate A Nightmare On Elm Street 9 ugly sweaters out of 10.
